There are several places you must visit. Among many other, we suggest the Lagoa das Sete Cidades, Lagoa do Fogo, Lagoa do Congro, Vale das Furnas, Parque Terra Nostra, Caldeiras das Furnas, Lagoa das Furnas and the small island of Vila Franca.

Beside the island’s natural beauty, we also point out the various religious events celebrated by the azorean people with a special reference to the annual Santo Cristo dos Milagres festivities which take place on the fifth Sunday after Easter in Ponta Delgada. The Divino Espírito Santo festivities take place from April to June and are the most traditional in the whole archipelago.

The Romeiros, another religious manifestation from the XVIth century, occurs during the Lenten period. For eight days, a group of men devoted to the Virgin Mary wander across the island, praying in all the churches with an altar dedicated to Her.

If you want to indulge in gastronomic delicacies, you can taste the traditional recipes, that include the Cozido das Furnas – a unique dish with meat and vegetables, cooked by the heat of the volcanic soil.

Shellfish, conventual sweets, cheeses, wines, pineapple and tea grown in Gorreana and Porto Formoso are some of the delicious examples that wait for you!
